Scheduled to launch in the 2020/2021 season!

The Steinbach Arts Council’s “After School Art Program” (ASAP) is our newest, most unique program to date.

We’re offering, free of charge, sessions in visual art, theatre, musical theatre… If you are in grades 5 – 9, we’ve got something for you.

What makes ASAP different?

After School Art Program is designed with your interests in mind.  Whether you’re interested in dropping in and asking a few questions about a topic, or you’re eager to develop your skills and show us what you’ve got, ASAP acts like a virtual drop-in centre…for the ARTS!

When does ASAP happen?

For the months of February and March 2021, we’re offering a variety of topics, with more being added regularly.  So check our website often!

Classes typically take place weekdays between 4-6 pm.  Register for one topic, or for all the sessions!  It’s up to you.

Who are the instructors?

Our instructors are primarily from our SAC community and have a wealth of knowledge in their respective areas.  They will talk with kids about their interests and guide them through the basics of many of SAC’s programs.  They’ll encourage and inspire anyone in grades 5-9!

How do I attend online sessions?

Register on our website.  Once you’ve registered, you will be sent a link to join the sessions.  All you need is a device and wifi, and you’re set.

JEREMY PLETT – After School Theatre

Mondays, 5-6pm, Feb. 9, Feb. 16, Feb. 23, Mar. 2, Mar. 9, Mar. 16, Mar. 23

Jeremy Plett is ready to go with After School Theatre.  He’s bringing in weekly guests to talk about the different aspects of theatre, including improv, the difference between drama and theatre, and even some tips and tricks to improving your confidence overall.  Drop in, and talk about the world of acting, and engage in a few theatre games and skill-building activities.  Interested in knowing if theatre is right for you and what its all about?  This is the place for you!

GABI GALLO – After School Musical Theatre

Wednesdays, 5-6pm, Mar. 3, Mar. 10, Mar. 17, Mar. 24

Bio: Gabriela Gallo is a talented and energetic, multi-award-winning music educator and choral specialist. She’s known for her love of middle-schoolers, and they love her back!  She makes every kid in her classes feel like a million bucks, no matter what she’s teaching!  Born and raised in Steinbach, Manitoba, Gabriela has spent her youth and adulthood performing as a soloist, in small group ensembles and choruses in multiple operas, musicals and operettas, performing with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Winnipeg’s own RWB.

KIMBERLY KOOP – After School Pilates

Mondays, 4-5 pm, Feb. 22, Mar. 1

Bio: Get into he room with Kimberly Koop, and develop your Pilates skills!  One of the most encouraging people we know, you’ll love her enthusiastic attitude, and her commitment to healthy lifestyle and balanced living.  Her positivity will get you moving, and thinking about total wellness!  Perfect for kids in grades 5 – 9!

DONNA GARAFALO – After School Clay

Tuesdays, 4:30 – 5:30, Feb. 9, Feb. 16, Feb. 23, Mar. 2, Mar. 9, Mar. 16, Mar. 23

Bio: Donna is one our busiest instructors.  At any given time, you might find her in our pottery studio, working on her students projects late into the night, firing, glazing, and making sure that everyone’s project lasts a lifetime.   She’s committed to teaching the art of pottery, so much that she’s even figured out how to do it online!  Join Donna after school for a session or two, learning how to create out of clay!

RAY HEIDINGER – After School Sketching

Mondays, 4:30-5:30 pm, Mar. 8 – 22

Bio: Ray is one of our most regular instructors at SAC.  He’s super talented, super nice, and super laid back!  By day, he’s a teacher with Hanover School Division, and by night, he’s our Art X-travaganza teacher.  A gifted sketch artist, you’re sure to pick up a trick or two from this guy.  Whether its improving your technique, just staring out, or perfecting your animation, Ray’s the guy you want to meet in our After School Sketching sessions!

DAVID GRAHAM – After School Song Writing

Mondays 4:30 – 5:30, Mar 8-22

Bio:  David Graham is an acoustic artist, a singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumental musician on guitar, drums, bass, piano, and a 4 octave range of vocals. His original works and arrangements earn him titles such as “musical enigma” and “Manitoba’s best kept secret”. Come and join with this local talent songwriting basics and be ready to try new things in the spontaneous world of creativity!

WILLIE WIEBE – After School Guitar

Thursdays 4:30-5:30 pm, Feb 18 –  Mar 25

Bio: Willie comes with a long list of professional performances under his belt, and YEARS of teaching experience with kids and adults of all ages.  Wiebe has taught guitar at several universities, colleges and studios for 40 years. Since 2012, he has been playing for Artists in Healthcare in their CancerCare program.

Not only is is super talented, but he’s full of laughs. You’ll learn some basic of the guitar quickly with Willie, and have a ton of fun while you do it!

ASAP’s focus and commitment is to provide youth of all ages with innovative and professional art programming, including lessons, classes and workshops, and mentorship with professional artists, musicians and teachers, all in a casual and comfortable environment!
